Correspondence, newspaper clippings, and broadsides, including letter, 2 Apr. 1898, Newberry, S.C., to Gov. William Ellerbe re B. Palmer Henley's training of 50 black recruits for Spanish-American war; 3 printed government documents including Blease's remarks on American Federation of Labor and power trust in S.C. primary of 1930 from "Congressional Record." Bound copy of Ben Tillman memorial addresses delivered in Congress, 15 Dec. 1918 with Blease's comments ("Tillman was a liar and ingrate ... dirty dog thru his entire career"); printed excerpts from 1912 S.C. House journal containing Blease's veto messages; report on Governors' Conference (Richmond, Va., 25 December 1912), typescript by correspondent for "Der Tag" newspaper (Berlin, Germany) re Blease's comments on interracial marriage, including S.C. politics, race relations, etc. Three broadsides issued by critics of Blease: reprint from "Samaritan Herald," an African-American newspaper, re speech made to African-American audience at Allen University; another attacking Blease as disloyal to the Democratic party and calling for formation of "clubs of vigilance" in every county to oppose the Republicans; and another from 1912, "Governor Blease's Record as to Negroes," describing three instances between 1910 and 1911 in which Gov. Blease had pardoned or paroled African Americans convicted of violent crimes against white citizens in Lexington and Richland counties; and biographical sketch of Stonewall Jackson written by Miss Anna Jackson Preston and presented to the Senate by Blease, 10 May 1928. Collection of newspaper clippings, 17 April-31 July 1930, reprinting George R. Koester's 1916 series "Bleasism"; and volumes of scrapbooks of clippings pertaining to Blease's career, including volume, ca. 1910 and 1914, re his 1910 election, and Blease's 1914 charges of criminal libel against James H. Moore, editor of Columbia Record; dispute with mayor of Charleston re encampment on Isle of Palms; and volume, 1910-1930, re Blease's career, issues such as the Dispensary and property taxes.
